When using reverse osmosis membranes(RO membranes)at high temperatures, there are indeed some corrosion related issues, but the term"corrosion"here usually does not refer to the traditional chemical corrosion of metal materials, but rather to the performance degradation and physical damage of membrane materials.
When using reverse osmosis membranes(RO membranes)at high temperatures, there are indeed some corrosion related issues, but the term"corrosion"here usually does not refer to the traditional chemical corrosion of metal materials, but rather to the performance degradation and physical damage of membrane materials.
The impact of high temperature on reverse osmosis membranes is mainly manifested in the following aspects:
1.Decreased desalination rate:As the water temperature increases, although the viscosity of the water decreases and the water production may increase, due to the intensified thermal movement of water molecules, some small molecule solutes are more likely to penetrate the membrane pores, resulting in a decrease in desalination rate.
2.Accelerated aging of membrane materials:In high-temperature environments, the chemical stability of membrane materials may deteriorate, accelerating their aging process. For example, polyamide composite membranes may undergo hydrolysis or oxidation reactions at high temperatures, affecting the service life of the membrane.
3.Accelerated microbial growth:High temperatures are beneficial for microbial growth.Without effective inhibition measures,it may lead to increased biological contamination, further damaging the structure and performance of the membrane.
4.Reduced mechanical strength:Prolonged high-temperature operation may also reduce the mechanical strength of the membrane and increase the risk of membrane rupture.
Therefore,in practical operation, reverse osmosis membrane systems generally have a suitable operating temperature range(such as the inlet water temperature range of Dongli reverse osmosis membrane is 5-45℃),exceeding this range may lead to a significant decrease in membrane performance or even damage. In order to maintain the stability of the reverse osmosis system and extend the service life of membrane components,it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the raw water entering the membrane components is controlled within the recommended range, and corresponding pre-treatment and maintenance measures should be taken to prevent adverse effects caused by high temperatures.
